Nerringillah Ecology Centre was established to allow people to investigate the natural environment around them. There are many uses of these same natural areas. This often causes conflicts of interest. I believe everyone has the right to express their opinion but I also believe they should be open to free debate to allow proper consideration of the issues at hand.
Controversial issues that surround the Centre include logging of native hardwood forest; placement of waste disposal facilities in forest areas; coastal use; rock platform study; placement of national parks; sub-division of private land and disturbance of indigenous artifacts.
I have established contacts with prominent people in fields which relate to each of the issues mentioned above. These include ecologists working for State Forests, National Parks Officers, Land Care workers, Local council, Wilderness Society, A.C.F., and local Indigenous Land Council Officers.
Each of these very varied issues is worth studying and may well fall into areas of both school curricula and University courses, for example, Human Impact, Geography, Aboriginal Studies and Environmental Studies.
I have also established links with other educators such as State Forests and Wollongong Botanic Gardens who are willing to add to any learning experience gained at Nerringillah.
