EUCALYPT FOREST
Nerringillah Ecology Centre is situated within the Greater Conjola National Park. There are many examples of logged forest at various stages of regeneration. Much harder to find is an example of an old growth unlogged area, but recently I have found one small patch within easy walking distance. The blackbutt trees here are probably close to 500 years of age and are about 2.2m in diameter at chest height.
On the property itself are reasonable examples of aging eucalypt forest (70-100 yr old) with typical understorey plants of dry sclerophyll.

Students can key out plants here, sample the environment in as many ways as they want to and generally immerse themselves in field work.
Insects abound but furry animals are actually more rarely seen, probably due to the distinct lack of hollows. There is often indirect evidence of mammals such as scats and diggings.
