FRESHWATER STREAM
It's no problem at all at Nerringillah to find examples of nearly all types of freshwater organisms, even in a short twenty minute collection time. Using Sydney Water's Streamwatch indicator species bug guide, students usually classify Nerrindillah stream as excellent.
Using nets provided, students usually find examples of stonefly larvae, mayfly larvae, shrimps, frogs, beetles, spiders, mites, copepods, brown algae and green algae to name but a few. All live specimens are returned to the stream to help ensure it's continuing health.

Students learn to identify with keys, pictures, hand lenses and binocular microscopes all the life they find. With a little help they can then draw a complete food web for the stream, all in one session.
